Terracotta Warriors
The villagers of Xiyang Village, Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, will never forget the unpredictable spring of March 1974. At that time, the three young farmers held their breath for a brief moment, because the field seemed to be annihilated together with their drill, tripod, and wooden shovel. A moment ago, they were working hard with others, and at this time, they had fallen into an ancient passage. The channel collapsed around them, lifting the billowing dust high into the sky overhead. When the dust settled, they found themselves surrounded by a group of heavily armored warriors: a group of life-size pottery soldiers stared blankly at the accidental invaders.
Visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, about 37 kilometers from Xi’an. Its excavated pits display life-size clay soldiers and horses from the burial complex of Qin Shi Huang. Explore the figures and learn about the archaeological work that has revealed this extraordinary part of China’s imperial history.
